Employment Type: Part time Shift: Shift 8 Description: Acts as a professional team member of the Cardiology Department in performing inpatient and outpatient adult and pediatric echocardiography testing and various related duties during hours of operation daily Mon- Fri 7a-430p,weekends and on call. Performs echocardiograms on inpatients, outpatients, and emergency patients. Obtains appropriate echocardiographic views as directed by the referring diagnosis, requested test and echocardiographic findings. Conducts adult, neonatal, and pediatric studies. Follows IAC standards, hospital, and department guidelines. Reacts effectively to the unique needs of the adult, neonatal and pediatric patient. Assists physicians in conducting invasive transesophageal echocardiographic studies. Identifies and informs cardiologist of potentially critical echocardiographic views & abnormalities detected. Notifies referring physician of abnormal Echo results in a timely manner. Modifies communication and treatment based on age, developmental level, and background of the patient. Initiates emergency care inclusive of CPR if required. Assist cardiology with transesophageal Echo by performing manages under ICAEL standards. Maintains proper cleaning and storage of TEE probe per policy. Assure required information in the Cardiology defined system for physician review. Duplicates images onto CD for Physician and /or Patient needs on request. Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities as required. Assists with Patient transport. Demonstrates proficiency with "definity" contrast echo studies. Keeps patients informed about the process, procedure, and expected wait time. Gives and welcomes constructive feedback as a learning tool. Prior to the start of the test, verifies written order from physicians, obtains patient history, and explains purpose, procedure, and expected outcomes to the patient. Coordinates schedule and procedures with nursing, radiology, and transport. Prepares studies for interpretation by providing previous studies for comparison. Notifies physician for STAT interpretation. Maintains equipment and supplies as needed. Troubleshoots and reports equipment failure to supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned.
