Job Summary

Globe Life is looking for a motivated Business Analyst. Working closely with Sr Business Analysts, business partners, technical delivery teams, and other stakeholders, this position will play a key role supporting critical projects in our Marketing Technology portfolio. The Business Analyst is a critical contributor to driving our project delivery forward and solving business problems, often with technology and data solutions.

This person works closely in supporting the Sr Business Analyst to collect and analyze data about end-user processes and operations to provide input about the value of business capability improvements. They support modeling existing business processes and technical touchpoints, and they support the diagnoses of process improvement opportunities to develop solutions using principles of process excellence.

The Business Analyst participates in the system development lifecycle, acting as a liaison in support of the Sr Business Analysts, end users and software developers, project management, QA, and other stakeholders. They support gathering, validating, and documenting data, functional, and non-functional/requirements for the development, reporting, and analytics projects the team undertakes. They collaborate with technical development teams to convert business needs into data and technical requirements. They support the Sr Business Analyst with monitoring and reporting the value associated with deployed solutions.

The Business Analyst is expected to work towards becoming a subject matter expert on business processes and activities that support the Marketing portfolio and develop strong familiarity with underlying enabling systems, processes, and data structures relating to technology within the business.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Models current business processes, including user workflows, system touchpoints, and key data sets, that span lifecycles and portfolios
  • Supports the Sr Business Analyst in corroboration with business stakeholders to prioritize and validate business outcomes and incorporate business feedback where needed
  • Captures, communicates, and validates data and system impacts
  • Driven by a business-outcomes mindset, works in an agile, iterative methodology
  • Supports the Sr Business Analyst in areas of process improvement, automation, or increased process quality and efficiency
  • Assists the Sr Business Analyst with creating and maintaining a healthy and ordered backlog of process, application, or feature enhancements; supports creation of business cases
  • Supports efforts to gather, define, and document business requirements on complex or large-scale efforts
  • Validates assumptions to uncover underlying issues and needs
  • Employs appropriate techniques to ensure business requirements contain sufficient detail to enable technical design and development (user-stories, functional and non-functional technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and report specifications) via diagrams, documents, gap analysis, and/or user stories
  • Works to become a subject matter expert (SME) on business processes, activities and supporting technical systems, within current portfolio/lifecycle scope
  • Collects and analyzes data to evaluate current-state performance and potential opportunities
  • Understands and perform logical queries to facilitate calculations, reporting, and complex Defines acceptance criteria, and validates completeness of User Acceptance Test scenarios and results to ensure functional requirements are evaluated
  • Collaborates with developers and other subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and evaluate tradeoffs between usability and performance
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, and helps resolve issues during testing and implementation
  • Monitors changes to baseline requirements, and apply change control processes and tools
  • Communicates with other teams and stakeholders to identify, monitor, and resolve dependencies
  • Measures and monitors solution performance to assess delivered value
  • Understands applications from a technical and business perspective
  • Communicates effectively on both technical and non-technical levels with various stakeholders
  • Understands the MarTech products and services to effectively manage the workload to produce improved, iterative business outcomes and maintain operability of the ongoing solutions
  • Understands the technology and solutions and "learn as you go" with the innovative advancements produced by the MarTech team (streamlined business operations, increasing automation opportunities, and maximizing productivity and efficiency across teams)
  • Utilizes various techniques to elicit and define business requirements, user-stories, functional and non-functional technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and report specifications (via diagrams, documents, gap analysis, and/or user stories)formulas
Required Skills:
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of Globe Life business model components
  • Ability to employ conceptual and systems thinking and understanding business processes, systems, and designs
  • Ability to generate process and relationship models of business workflows, data journeys, and technical systems
  • Familiarity with techniques to define business requirements, user-stories, functional and non-functional technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and report specifications, such as via diagrams, documents, gap analysis, etc.
  • Familiarity with requirements definition methodology, including elicitation, capture, validation, and governance
  • Familiarity with software development principles and lifecycle, including Agile
  • Understanding of complex system and enterprise architecture models; supports discussions based on impact of broader technical initiatives
  • Brings "data first" mindset to analysis
  • Familiar with IT policies and standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skillset and bias
  • Ability to plan, organize, and structure work
  • Supports development of business cases compiling benefit, cost, and risk information
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, data structures and analysis, and reporting tools and platforms
  • Utilize "big picture" thinking and understanding to business processes, systems, and designs
  • Inquisitive and detailed perspective is required
  • Knowledge of web services and cloud-based platforms is a plus
  • Experience with digital marketing and automation tools is a plus
  • Strong organizational, time-management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to evaluate and consider multiple perspectives, in order to define a solution that takes into account the many layers of a system from the user interface down to the data layers
  • Ability to resolve conflict and create optimal working relationships with teams

  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables according to established timelines
  • Skilled with Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Azure DevOps, Jira
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
Required Experience:
  • 1-3 years work experience performing business and data analysis preferred
  • Significant experience creating process flows, data flows, and requirements documents
  • Strong data querying and analysis skills
  • Experience working with business stakeholders and development teams
  • Experience in Agile/ Scrum methodology
  • Experience engaging in multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) preferred
  • Life insurance industry experience preferred
