Go to the Grandville Public School website and click on the "application information" link found on the Human Resources Department page or go to Building Operations Supervisor District Administration Full Year Position SUMMARY Under the direction of the Superintendent and Director of Business Services, the Building Operations Supervisor is responsible for the management and direction of building maintenance, facility renovations, custodial, grounds keeping, participation in facilities planning/construction and safety/security services. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the interviewing and hiring of employees. Supervise district foreman and department secretary. Supervise district purchases of supplies, equipment and services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) Analyzes needs for purchase of materials and supplies. Responsible for the purchase and delivery of needed materials and supplies. Prepares specifications and submits cost estimates of proposed projects. Provide in-service training for maintenance, custodial and grounds personnel on new equipment and work methods. Conducts safety inspections and accident investigations to create a safe environment. Develop annual priority list for maintenance of buildings. Receive repair requests and schedule repairs for buildings and facilities. Review the foreman's schedule of routine annual grounds upkeep. Work with the foreman to annually evaluate the grounds of all facilities. Develop work schedule. Work with principals on schedule change requests. Interview and hire new maintenance, grounds and custodial staff involving the building principal and/or foreman when necessary. Evaluate district foreman. Develop annual budget for custodial, maintenance and grounds departments including energy usage. Review all monthly expenditures to stay in alignment with the budgets. Approve spending and invoices for general fund and sinking fund goods and services. Develop short and long range energy conservation programs. Work with staff on energy conservation. Maintain energy consumption records. Keep the district in compliance with Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Clean Water Act, underground gasoline tank and storage tank regulations, pesticide laws. Keep annual licenses valid to remain in compliance. Oversee updating of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Update employees on chemical usage in district. Develop plan for identifying and disposing of hazardous waste or potential hazardous waste. Oversee the pest control contractors and pest products available. Verify grounds employees are certified in pest control. Work with architects to develop project scope, bidding documents and quality control related to building a renovation project QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma required; advanced study or college degree preferred. Experience supervising foreman, custodial, maintenance and grounds employees Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the district. Good mathematical skills. Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and with staff.
