Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Working as a member of our Facilities team, the Building Maintenance Technician ensures that the safety of structures and operation of buildings are kept in required working condition, and in a safe and clean manner. This position restores malfunctioning building equipment and systems to normal operation with minimal supervision. The Building Maintenance Technician is a member of the college's emergency team, carries a college-issued cellphone twenty-four (24) hours a day to answer emergency calls within one hour of the call; and may act in the absence of the Building Maintenance Supervisor. This position is considered "essential personnel" for college and inclement weather emergencies; and may be assigned to any of the college's locations. This position will be expected to lift and move heavy objects, work from heights, and perform work in small spaces.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Considerable working knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, and/or electrical maintenance repairs and installations; and proper safety techniques in the performance of maintenance operations. Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments and equipment, and hand and power tools. An EPA approved universal refrigerant certification ( CFC ) for the handling and charging of air conditioning units, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Valid driver's license is required.
Additional Considerations
Training or coursework leading to advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, and/or electrical maintenance repairs and installations. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics, and diagrams; and, to operate a personal computer.
