As a Building Enclosure Roofing Specialist, you will be working with our Building Materials Services group to help with solutions related to various roofing systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field assessment and preparing project deliverables, including, proposals, reports, technical specifications and repair details of different roofing systems.
  • Mentoring junior staff on conducting assessment and design of various roofing systems. assessment and de Prepare documents using data collected from existing drawings and rough sketches provided by others.
  • Project and team management as follows:
    • Work directly with project managers to help implement project goals.
    • Assign duties to junior-level staff to implement project goals, as needed.
    • Oversee variable aspects of projects, such as project schedule, deliverables, fees, and invoicing, and provide direct assistance to ensure timely project execution.
    • Prepare addenda and bulletins.
  • Productively interact with client representatives and SME subcontractors.
  • Help enhance the visibility of SME's expertise. In this regard, your participation in professional organizations outside of your regular employment is encouraged.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of five-years' experience in assessing and developing technical reports and Project Documents for various roofing systems, including: membrane, metal, liquid-applied, vegetative and steep-slope roofing systems. This includes visual reviews, material sampling and patching, and non-destructive moisture survey, i.e., moisture meter.
  • Technical experience in detailing of various roofing systems and detailing the interfaces between roofing and different building enclosure systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASTM and AAMA standards and testing procedures related to roofing systems and other building enclosure elements.
  • Experience in the design and detailing of roofing adjacent metal flashing systems, such as, coping, edge metal, counterflashing, scuppers, and gutters and downspouts.
  • Excellent technical, written, graphical and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to safely use and operate ladders and stairs, scaffolds, lifts and other equipment to access roofs and go inside existing or under-construction buildings recording the necessary field data to produce construction documents for roofing system and other building enclosure elements and materials.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work from heights, work in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team, as well as the desire for continuous learning.
  • Medically fit to use a respiratory protective device and other Personal Protective Equipment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Registered Architect (RA), or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) or Registered Roof Observer (RRO)
  • Experience in conducting wind up-lift loading diagrams and pressures in accordance ASCE 7 and FM Global RoofNav Software.
  • Experience with building science and performance evaluation, including condensation control, ventilation and moisture vapor movement.
