Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic with Security Clearance

Duties You will use technical manuals, manufacturer's manuals, and special instructions to install, repair, or maintain equipment and systems associated with high pressure steam boilers. You will use hand tools, portable power tools, and test equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, ammeters, electronic leak detectors, control devices, hydraulic press, micrometers) to repair and maintain high pressure steam boilers or equipment. You will determine damage to heating, fuel power boilers, and associated equipment when planning repair and modification projects. You will inspect boiler equipment (e.g., oil levels, cycling, overheated bearings, leaking valves/components, unusual noises) to determine repairs needed. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is usually performed indoors on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to; dust, dirt, hazardous chemicals, High-temperature surfaces, high ambient temperatures, direct steam, excessive noise, rotating machinery, asbestos insulation, confined spaces, high voltage, hazardous fumes, high pressure air, steam, or fluids. May occasionally service equipment outdoors under adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to the potential for burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations.
