Job Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 32 Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Contributes to the Hospital's mission by servicing the needs of the behavioral health patients. Assumes responsibility for providing skilled, creative, high quality care to patients under the direction of an ED Registered nurse. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties and responsibilities in collaboration with ED clinical staff. Works effectively and collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team to enhance the smooth delivery of quality patient care. This position will have an impact on improving quality and safety to patients in the ED. The role includes but it not limited to the use of skilled communication and diversion techniques, collaboration with outside services and face-to-face interaction with patients at the bedside to ensure patient and employee safety. Job Description: WORK SCHEDULE: 32 hours/week; Choose 11 am-7:30 pm OR 3-11:30 pm. QUALIFICATIONS: Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred: Degree in psychology or related field with theoretical as well as practical knowledge Experience Preferred: Previous related experience. Knowledge of the care of the Behavioral Health Patient and Family unit. Other Skills/Knowledge Required: For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team. Competent in positive and professional interactions with individual patients and families Knowledge of drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms Effective understanding and application of de-escalation techniques Knowledge of appropriate and safe restraint management processes Demonstrates a positive demeanor that allows for respectful and courteous interaction with all external and internal customers. Works cooperatively and effectively with others with Able to adapt to changes in the workplace Preferred: Basic computer skills Strong organizational skills LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support (BLS) JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintains a solid understanding of hospital policies and protocols and practices within those policies and procedures Maintains understanding of signs/symptoms of psychiatric diagnosis, including drug/alcohol withdrawal and applies appropriate therapeutic interventions to mitigate patient escalation Monitors the patient and environment for safety concerns Assists with promoting a positive age-appropriate therapeutic and educational atmosphere. Uses approved and appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions Responds to patient care needs and issues Assists patients with personal hygiene and other activities of daily living. Collaborates with nursing to assist with any patient needs. Assists in transfer process for patients coming into and leaving the ED, ensuring that patient safety is addressed. Acts as a role model for other staff Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for patient rights and privacy issues Consistently promotes professional working relationships between ED staff, psychiatric clinicians and patients May function in the ED Tech role as needed in the care of all patients.
