Behavior Support Professional (BSP)

Job Summary:
Responsible for providing training, support, and coordination of activities within the school
related to the implementation of the Positive Behavior Incentive System (PBIS) and for assisting
with the behavioral needs of students organization-wide.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to strengthening community engagement and
communication with the school's diverse populations. This position works closely with the
Clinical Team, Teaching Staff, and Administration to produce positive outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in developing procedures and training materials for staff involved with students
who have challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and
ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines
Tracks behavioral data and completes monthly reports in a timely manner
Reviews and escalates all behavior reports and consequences in a timely manner
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees for the purpose of
conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining
knowledgeable about program guidelines
Participates as a member of the program's interdisciplinary treatment team, and
contributes information regarding student progress in relation to the student's general
well-being
Obtains/maintains full certification in Safe Crisis Management
Implements crisis stabilization procedures in collaboration with the Clinical Team and in
accordance with established policies and procedures; in the event of any emergency,
communicates pertinent information to the appropriate stakeholders
(administrators/families)
Assists in evacuating students during fire drills, emergencies, and unusual events
Conducts periodic behavioral walkthroughs daily
Researches and incorporates approved resources from other philosophies or program
partners
Attends and participates in training in Valley Day practices and procedures as well as
ongoing professional development and applies training to professional duties
Serves as a mandated reporter of child abuse/neglect under PA state law, for the
purpose of ensuring the safety of the students
Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families/guardians

Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective
functioning of the building and teaching team
Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
Ability to obtain Pennsylvania Paraeducator Certification
Background in child care, teaching, social work, counseling and/or psychology that
demonstrates an aptitude for working with children with special needs
Possesses the knowledge required to create student support materials, and/or speak
positively and persuasively with students to encourage desired actions; analyze
situations to define issues and draw conclusions
Demonstrates the flexibility and problem solving skills required to work with staff,
students, and families in a variety of circumstances. Displays adaptability/flexibility and
ability to communicate with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills
Confident in decision making and the ability to provide direction to others
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, human services,
or related field
Current CPR/ First Aid certification
High level of organization; detail-oriented
An appreciation and understanding of instructional technology
High tolerance for loud, disruptive, and sometimes provocative student behavior
Ability to maintain a positive and constructive attitude under stressful situations
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands/Requirements:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., be agile, physically pursue students on foot,
physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, and reach
Must be able to implement and perform Safe Crisis Management techniques to respond
to student behaviors
Must be able to read, write, enter dates and follow verbal/written directions and to use
a computer and/or other technology to prepare reports and complete forms
Must be able to verbally communicate and direct others to respond to students' needs
Expected Hours/ Shift Type: This is an hourly, 10 month, full time position with a fixed schedule
Monday through Friday. The ability to maintain punctual and reliable attendance is critical to
this position.

All employees of Valley Day School must obtain and submit to the school the appropriate
clearances before their first day of employment. These documents include, but are not limited
to: PA Criminal Record Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Registration Information, DPW Child Abuse
Clearance, Act 168 form for present and past employment history, etc
