Our staff provide a nurturing environment and emphasize the development of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to children K-6th throughout the Illinois Quad City Schools. Hours are Monday-Friday 6:30-8:00am, and 2:30-5:30pm. Various school sites in Moline, East Moline and Rock Island areas. Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Site Leader and/or Extension Coordinator, the general function of this position is to assist with the responsibilities in running successful year-round school-age care programs. During the school year this position serves as a Site Assistant at our Before & After School programs and as a Camp Counselor during the summer. They will possess full knowledge of Y philosophy, workings of a program locations and groups, and understand character development as the chief mission of the Y and personally exhibits a commitment to this in all Y operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintains current CPR/AED and other required trainings and certifications. Assist in the implementation of weekly lesson plans and curriculum. Monitors and ensures the safety of the children at all times. Greet and develop a courteous relationship with program participants, program parents and guardians, school staff, and the general public by using Listen First Skills. Attend all required staff meetings and trainings. Assist in serving meals and snacks to our program participants. Keep all program areas safe and clean. Resolve conflict and discipline issues with program participants. Arrive to work on time with your nametag, proper attire, Y staff shirt, and a positive attitude. Maintain a professional image of the Y in the facility and the community. Work as a team with other Y staff members. Enforce Y Code of Conduct and all rules and information found in the staff training guide. Report Incidents by using the proper forms to the Coordinators and Directors. You may be required to change school sites or travel from site to site on occasion. Other duties may be assigned. Effect and End Results: The effect of a successful Extension Assistant will be a well-administered program that influences the children in the areas of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Parents and the community will view the program as a positive, safe, and nurturing environment. All Extension facilities, activities, and events will be supervised and staffed as needed to maintain a high quality of programming. Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for supervising all Extension program participants. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. One year working with youth is preferred. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, students, administrators, and staff. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR/AED for infant, child and adult, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, other required trainings, and complete a Medical Exam and TB Test. Other Skills and Abilities: Strong human relations skills required.
