Job Title: Balcony Drum Operator

Reports to: Wet Floor Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly

General Overview:

Balcony Drum Operator is responsible for the safety, quality, and production of the sequential, interconnected chemical and mechanical operations of the leather tanning process to produce the finest leather used in the manufacturing the finest products while working in a safe organized environment in the Wet Floor Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Follow all safety, quality, and manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Conduct in-process quality checks to ensure compliance standards are being met
  • Read, understand, and follow all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in production supporting the manufacturing of our sporting good products
  • Read, understand, and follow all product specifications and processes supporting the manufacturing of our sporting good products
  • Communicate with Wet Floor Supervisor and Leader Tanner to receive work direction and instruction on work to be performed
  • Ascends/descends stairway to perform work on balcony level
  • Remove/install equipment
  • Identifies and measures chemicals to be used
  • Blend, mix, and add chemicals to drum using mathematical formulas as approved by Lead Tanner
  • Take pH readings using paper and meters
  • Operate drums and beamhouses used in leather tanning according to process and in a safe and efficient manner
  • Label chemicals used in the leather tanning process
  • Operate forklift to move materials
  • Ensure Wet Floor department is a safe and organized area

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required:
  • Basic skills in math and reading measurements (fractions, decimals, and alegbra)
  • On-the-job training
  • Ability to operate machinery including drums and beamhouses
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to manually assemble
  • Knowledge working around hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow formulas to mix chemicals
  • Exercise extreme caution in a wet environment
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision
  • Must be dependable and reliable
  • Able to adapt to change and be flexible

Working Conditions: Manufacturing work environment

Safety Hazards: Depending upon production department, may be exposed to dust, air borne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, solvents, heat, and smells. Safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe boots, gloves, sleeves, smocks, positive pressure full-face hoods, fall arrest harness, rubber boots, aprons, and rubber gloves are required while performing certain tasks.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of basic math and reading measurements (fractions and decimals)

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute to problem solving.
