INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation. Hours of Work: 4/10's, 5:30am-4:00pm, Mon-Thurs The Ideal candidate will have the CA-NV-AWWA General Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification or an ABPA Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester Certification; and a CA-NV-AWWA Cross-connection Control Specialist Certification. Have the knowledge and skills to repair all makes and models of backflow assemblies from 3/4 inch to 10 inch. Be able to perform inspections of contractor installed assemblies to make sure that the installation meets UDACS standards. Two years of maintenance and/or operations experience in the water works field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled, journey-level duties in the testing, maintenance and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; and performs related duties as assigned. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Practices, techniques, methods, tools and equipment used in the testing, installation, maintenance and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work; shop mathematics; use and operation of oxyacetylene torch for cutting bolts and other metallic materials; Safe Drinking Water Act and relevant EPA regulations pertinent to the testing, installation and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; micro-computer applications related to the work; codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the work. Ability to: Inspect, install, diagnose and repair a wide variety of backflow prevention assemblies; identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work; read and interpret plans, specifications and manuals; exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work; coordinate work assignments with other sections, divisions or departments. Training and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and two years of maintenance and/or operations experience in the water works field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy. Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester within 6 mos. of hire. Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Certification. State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Distribution Operator's, Grade I within 12 months of hire.
