The Position on our Team:

The Head of Corporate Communication will lead the development and execution of the company's communication strategy. This role is responsible for managing all internal and external communications to promote a positive image of the company, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives, and enhancing its reputation. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and extensive experience in corporate communications.

This is a full-time, hybrid role with three days in-office and two days working remotely.

This role will be filled at either the AVP or VP level, depending on candidate experience.

In This Role, You Will:

Strategic Communication Planning

  • In close coordination with Executive Team guidance, develop and implement a comprehensive corporate communication strategy that supports the company's business goals
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels and materials.
  • Identify and mitigate potential communication risks.

Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets and journalists.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of press releases, media kits, and other communication materials.
  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests.

Internal Communications

  • Develop and implement internal communication programs to ensure employees are informed and engaged.
  • Foster a culture of transparency and open communication within the organization while ensuring mission and values are consistently used as through-line in all communications.
  • Oversee the creation of internal newsletters, memos, and other communication tools.

External Communications and Public Relations

  • Manage the company's public image and reputation.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of public relations campaigns (both nationally and at the property level where applicable).
  • Coordinate with corporate marketing to ensure brand consistency.
  • Manage crisis communication efforts as needed.

Content Creation and Management

  • Oversee the creation of high-quality content for various platforms, including the company website, social media, and corporate reports.
  • Ensure all content is aligned with the company's strategic goals and messaging.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, investors (in concert with IR) and government entities.
  • Coordinate communication efforts to address stakeholder concerns and promote the company's interests.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the corporate communication team.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources efficiently.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.

What You Bring to Macerich:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful communication strategies.
  • Strong media relations skills and experience acting as a company spokesperson.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications Education Preferred

Bachelors or better in Communication or related field.

Masters or better in Communication or related field.
