Department: 10 - Heavy Construction Reports to: Aviation Paving Superintendent JOB SUMMARY:Responsible for the oversight of paving crews, including Craft Supervisors, Craft Leads, and Craft. Oversees theconcrete paving crew to install high quality concrete paving safely, productively, and efficiently. Coordinatesand interfaces effectively with Aviation Paving Superintendent and Construction Manager to ensure workplans and procedures are following in the field. Ensures crews adhere to safety, attendance, and workplacebehavior standards in accordance with the Company Policies and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.Manages preparation and/or execution of slipform and fixed form paving operations and constructs finishedpavements meeting stringent FAA, USACE, and various state / DOT specifications. Assists the Superintendentwith direct in-field supervision of a crew working on all phases of construction. Responsible for maintainingand improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas of work under his/her direction and control. Servesas the front-line Safety Officer for the site/project and is directly responsible for the Safety of his/her crew.Must be willing to travel, work out of town, and work night shifts.PRIMARY DUTIES: SafetyConduct a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before the beginning of the workday and also when a specific job task arises during the workday that was not covered in the morning JSA. Conduct the "End of the Day" JSA with crew and has each crew member sign the JSA before leaving work.Utilize project Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) and Project Specific Safety plans to develop JSAs for specific tasks.Monitors on-site safety. Ensures that the crew are equipped with all PPE required for each task. Reports any unsafe acts, incidents, injuries, property damage, near miss, etc. to the Paving Superintendent and/or Construction Manager, as necessary.Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) with crew members before handling any potentially hazardous materials.Ensures that crew members are trained in performing specific tasks prior to work (i.e., Chop saw/Chain saw, Rigging/Flagging, Man Lift, Confined Space, etc.).Ensure field supervision implements Boh Bros' Best Practices and OSHA standards at the job sites.Attend and actively participate in Safety Conversations.Paving OperationsDirectly supervise crews to perform safe, efficient, high-quality work.Track and report daily quantities including taking field measurements and calculations.Responsible for implementation of tool/equipment inspections to maintain that all tools/equipment are in proper working condition.Inspects the condition of grade, forms, and reinforcement placement for compliance with plans and specifications prior to concrete placements.Perform and manage paving equipment setup, width changes, and calibrations, along with making sure all equipment is kept clean in good working order.Monitors all concrete placements, finishing, sawing, and curing operations for plan/specification compliance.Assist Superintendent and Construction Manager with developing work plans and paving plans.Complete daily timecard via iPad by the end of each work shift with correct cost codes, quantities, and description of work performed that shift.Utilize Procore software via iPad to access and review project documents, upload progress photos of the work daily.Read and comprehend project plans and specifications to ensure work complies with project requirements.Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:Previous experience with slipform paving equipment (preferably GOMACO RTP 500, TC-600, GP3, GP4) preferred. Airfield paving experience is a plus.Experience with stringless technology and knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on slip form paving equipment is a plus.Minimum education requirement of high school diploma or equivalent.Self-motivated, willing to ask questions and eager to learn.Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees.Must have valid US driver's license and be able to pass high security background checks to obtain badges for entry to various airports and military bases.Must have a dependable vehicle with up-to-date inspection sticker to perform work related duties.Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff with strong customer service orientation.Ability to follow and enforce company's core values.Physical Demands/Work Environment:While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee isfrequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Theemployee is required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee mustoccasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee usuallystationed at jobsite and will be required to physically perform work at times.Must have the ability to work long hours, night shifts, work out of town (per diem applies), and drive long distances to and from work; will be required to work weekends and nights at times.
