Nesco Resource is partnering with a local manufacturer in the Elmira, NY area to fill a role for an Automatic Machine Operator. Looking for experieinced machine operating candidates with at least a year of experience.

Pay Rate: $15-$17 per hour DOE

Automatics Machine Operator

Position Summary: The Automatics Machine Operator is responsible for the operation of two or more previously set-up multiple spindle screw machines to perform a series of machining operations on metal bar stock in compliance with customer, company, and OSHA standards and requirements.

Specific Educational/ Vocational Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational training such as Precision Machining.
  • Combination of education, experience, and training may be substituted for these requirements.
Principle Responsibilities/ Accountabilities
  • Handles metal parts with precision and accuracy while inspecting for imperfections or defects.
  • Wears personal protective equipment as required by company policy and OSHA standards.
  • Selects and sets cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools, according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.
  • Installs tools in spindles and mounts attachments or tools onto production equipment.
  • Moves machine controls to lower tools to workpieces and to engage automatic feeds.
  • Verifies conformance of machined work to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, fixed or telescoping gauges, and related controls and guidelines to ensure adherence to production/ process specifications.
  • Measures dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Reads work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements.
  • Studies machining instructions, job orders, blueprints or other instructions to determine dimensional or finish specifications, sequences of operations, or tooling and equipment setup requirements.
  • Reviews blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.
  • Establishes zero reference points on workpieces, such as at the intersections of two edges or over hole locations.
  • Manufactures sufficient quantities of quality products per specified standards.
  • Operates automatic or semiautomatic machines and related equipment in a continuous production/ processing operation.
  • Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities and makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment.
  • Fits, aligns, calibrates, and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements.
  • Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
  • Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping of work area.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties/ tasks as directed by supervision or management.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment with proficiency using basic manufacturing tools and equipment such as measuring instruments: calipers, micrometers, fixed or telescopic gauges, comparators,
  • Understanding of standard measurement principles and blueprint reading, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work in oils and cutting fluids, constant standing and bending, and lifting heavy bar-stock into feeding tubes.
  • Working knowledge of the Manufacturing Industry.
  • Excellent hand/ eye coordination with an "eye for detail.
  • Basic math skills with or without a calculator.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state regulations (OSHA, EPA).
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to keep work area neat and clean and eliminate potential hazards.
  • Ability to conform to company policies/ procedures and OSHA standards with the goal of zero safety related incidents.
  • Ability to work various schedules including nights and weekends.
  • Ability and capacity to train and expand knowledge based on company specifications and requirements.
