LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: ATTENDANCE TECHNICIAN BASIC FUNCTION: Perform technical attendance accounting duties to assure accurate accounting of student enrollment and attendance for monthly ADA reports; establish, prepare and maintain related records and files; communicate with staff, student and parents concerning student attendance. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Perform technical attendance accounting duties to assure accurate accounting of student enrollment and attendance for monthly ADA reports; distribute attendance sheets to teachers. E Input and generate attendance data and distribute attendance reports as required; reconcile and adjust attendance reports; submit reports to District office and appropriate personnel; compose letters and memos pertaining to attendance. E Prepare and maintain student enrollment and attendance reports, records and files, including suspensions, expulsions, Code B's, home instruction and others. E Communicate with counselors regarding student attendance issues; maintain confidentiality of personal information and problems of students. E Communicate with a variety of District personnel and outside organizations to exchange information and resolve issues. E Operate a variety of office machines including computer terminal, scanners, telephone, duplicating machine and other machines as required. E Assist students at counter; issue permits to leave school; receive, review and follow-up on sick notes and ill students. E Provide student attendance information to staff, parents and authorities as requested; explain and interpret rules, procedures, precedents and activities as needed. Make and receive phone calls concerning attendance, independent study and homework; refer public to proper personnel as needed. Train and oversee student assistants as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Attendance laws, codes, rules and procedures. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Record-keeping techniques. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Reading, writing, and oral communications skills. Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws. Technical aspects of field of specialty. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Maintain an accurate attendance accounting system. Establish and maintain an effective relationship with students and adults in person and on the telephone. Interpret and explain attendance laws and school policies, rules, regulations and procedures. Operate office machines and equipment. Plan and organize work. Compile and produce reports. Deal effectively with parents, students and other authorities in difficult situations. Operation of a computer terminal. Establish and maintain files. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Type at an acceptable rate of speed. Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines. Work confidentially with discretion. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and responsible clerical experience. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School office environment. Constant interruptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and standard office equipment. Sitting for extended periods of time.
