Title Asst / Assoc / Professor of Clinical Medicine Specific Title Executive Site Director AMPATH - Kenya / Stephanie and Craig Brater Chair in Global Health Appointment Type Clinical Track Faculty Department IUSM - Medicine - Infectious Disease Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis Position Summary Reports to: Director, Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity Role and Responsibilities Administrative Leadership With the executive committee of the Center for Global Health Equity, contribute to the IU School of Medicine (IUSM) vision, mission and strategic plan in Kenya, and oversee its implementation in the field. Provide leadership for the fullest possible expression and integration of the tripartite academic mission-care, research and education, and AMPATH's vision, mission and values. Provides leadership from the AMPATH Consortium and as the IU lead in Kenya in the development, implementation and evaluation of the AMPATH Kenya strategic plans, goals, and objectives. In collaboration with counterparts at MU and MTRH and in conjunction with leadership at IUCGHE, provides oversight and strategic guidance on care, education and research in initiatives and programming for the AMPATH consortium in Kenya. Serve as Indiana University's and the AMPATH Consortium's principal representative in Kenya to the leadership of Moi University (MU), Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), the Government of Kenya (GOK), the US Embassy, and other pertinent institutions and agencies. Serve as a member of the AMPATH executive committee and select sub-committees. Serve in a counterpart relationship with the MTRH CEO, MU Principal and Deans, and work closely with the AMPATH Executive Director for Care and Research and provide him/her with assistance when requested. Provide guidance and mentoring to the AMPATH Consortium's team leads, long term faculty and discipline leads in Kenya, and ensure that their activities are coordinated and consistent with AMPATH's and IU's mission, vision, and values. Nurture existing relationships and foster new professional relationships between AMPATH Consortium faculty/staff and Kenyan partners enabling and empowering Kenyan and American faculty members and staff to achieve their professional goals and the goals of their institutions. Identify and foster development of future Kenyan and North American leaders. Work closely with the IIGH Kenya Managing Director to assist in their financial and administrative decision making and in other management issues relating to safety and security, immigration and taxation regulations, and IU House operations. Participate in regular scheduled calls (e.g. the weekly AMPATH Kenya executive committee calls, biweekly visitor review calls, AMPATH replication Site Director calls, monthly AMPATH wide-education committee meeting calls, regular IU/Moi education meeting calls with MU Dean, and monthly phone calls of the leadership of the AMPATH Consortium). Keep the Director of IUCGHE and the Executive Director of the AMPATH Consortium informed of significant developments, challenges and urgent situations in Kenya. Participate in the recruitment of team leaders, other long-term faculty/staff. Assist in interviewing and hiring process of AMPATH staff as the AMPATH executive sub-committee representative as requested. Host high-level visitors to AMPATH Kenya, assist with schedule development, attend and play leadership/speaker roles in celebrations and events held for visitors, Kenya students/residents (Moi or MTRH) as requested. Represent IU's activities as needed for philanthropic efforts (in coordination with the IUCGHE and the Development and Communications teams). Act as incident command lead for all medical and security emergencies involving AMPATH consortium visitors. Assist with diagnosis, treatment and coordination of care of ill visitors to IU house. Assist with SOP development and maintenance (e.g. emergency incident planning, visitor informational documents and procedures). Participate in advocating, identifying and arranging Kenya trainee(s) rotations at consortium partner institutions Clinical Responsibilities. Clinical / Service Responsibilities Participate as a visiting faculty member within a department of MU School of Medicine (MUSM), including but not limited to practicing medicine and engaging in the delivery of clinical or public health services. Educational Responsibilities Support the AMPATH Consortium's team leaders and discipline leaders to provide educational programming and oversite for AMPATH Consortium institutions' residents and students while living in Eldoret. Support the AMPATH Consortium's team leaders and discipline leaders to provide opportunities for Kenyan learners to engage in AMPATH consortium opportunities. Participate in educational activities at MUSM as directed by the relevant MU head of department. Research Responsibilities Assist and facilitate efforts by AMPATH's co-directors of research to achieve their objectives and overall mission and vision including nurturing research infrastructure. Working Environment The Executive Site Director is required to live in Eldoret, Kenya, at the IU House whenever legal and institutional permissions allow. Office space and access to office equipment (printers, photocopying) will be provided. Will be required to attend meetings or perform work remotely, including across time zones. Basic Qualifications MD/DO, PhD, DrPH or PharmD (terminal degree) with 5-7 years of global health or relevant health system experience.
