Position Summary:

The Associate Medical Director, in collaboration with the CEO and executive leadership, develops and implements efficient clinical operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. This poition provides overall leadership and program management for key strategic business initiatives, with the objective to support the organization in embracing and executing systems across all Ascend Healthcare partnerships, transforming processes and culture to provide sustainable performance excellence. The Associate Medical Director will provide oversight and leadership to the Behavioral Health Medical Provider (BHMP) teams. The Associate Medical Director will focus on BHMP slot utilization and work with their peers on the current operating model, continuous improvement of internal and external processes, effective integration of newly acquired partners, and field implementation of key growth adjacencies.

Key Areas of Ownership:

  • Clinical Leadership:
    • Supports, mentors, and provides supervision and direction to BHMP Managers.
    • Identifies clinical and professional development staff needs; works collaboratively with the executive leadership team to implement appropriate education and training programs.
    • Coordinates the resolution of escalated complaints and grievances as appropriate.
    • Acts as final point of contact on team management issues. Must be able to analyze situations objectively and adopt an effective course of action.
    • Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
    • Develops and reviews departmental, functional, and/or service-related policies, procedures, and ongoing program development.
    • Develops, implements, and maintains organizational goals and objectives, process improvement initiatives, and quality measures.
    • Directs the collection of statistical or fiscal information, electronic medical records, and other data as needed to evaluate and monitor performance of departmental programs and services, and prepares reports.
    • Establishes and promotes effective working relationships with current and potential partners, key agencies, and external stakeholders towards achievement of organizational goals.
    • Serve as the clinical optimization and FQHC expert
    • Develop and initiate new clinically-focused programs that support the growth and strategy of the organization
    • May practice clinically as a mechanism to support access to care and evaluate operational systems
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Plan and monitor the BHMP day-to-day running of the business to ensure smooth progress
    • Leverage a team-based approach to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and drive growth
    • Design and lead multi-year transformations across various stakeholder systems to evolve delivery and operations
    • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote fiscally responsible practices
    • Supervise and collaborate with staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback
    • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
    • Review internal development identifying issues that may affect organizational well-being and efficacy
    • Monitor key performance indicators, determine gaps in performance metrics, and recommend change management techniques for quality improvements, cost savings, and revenue enhancements
  • Integration Leadership:
    • Successfully integrate newly-contracted practices as part of Ascend's growth strategy; with integration plans that support a repeatable and successful process from sourcing through the transition period
    • Act as an agent for organizational change by recognizing integration gaps and developing mitigation plans/sustainable solutions with leadership
    • Provide team alignment around key investment metrics for monitoring integration success (KPIs)

You should bring

  • 5 years experience in operations-related leadership roles preferred
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • FQHC senior or executive-level leadership experience preferred
  • Project Management and Process Improvement experience

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation $200,000-$210,000

Eligible for Performance Bonus
