Under the direction of Legal Department leadership, the Associate Counsel will be responsible for legal research and advice to support the organization's operational, legal, compliance and regulatory goals. The Associate Counsel is a business partner, engaging with departments to understand their issues that may have both legal and business impacts. The position requires the ability to demonstrate sound judgment, organizational skills and adaptability to a fast-paced work environment.

Education & Experience

Five plus (5+) years or more of legal practice or in-house experience as an attorney
Experience with HIPAA HITECH regulations and Federal and California privacy laws and regulations
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association accredited law school required
Possession of an active, unrestricted, and unencumbered license to practice law from the State Bar of California required

Key Qualifications

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism, maturity, discretion and integrity in dealing with individuals at all levels in the organization, particularly with executive leadership
Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong legal research skills, including proficiency with Lexis Nexis or Westlaw
Knowledge of health plan licensing, regulatory compliance, managed care operations, and provider and government contracts.
