Job Summary and Qualifications GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The primary responsibility of the Assistant Vice President of Anesthesia Operations is leading anesthesia vendor engagements for the enterprise Ambulatory Surgery Division (ASD), in coordination with applicable leadership teams. Evaluation of current service provisions, PSA's, and stability of incumbent vendors. SUPERVISOR: Vice President, Anesthesia Operations ASD SUPERVISES: Directors, ASD Operations (if applicable) DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Lead anesthesia vendor engagements for the enterprise (in coordination with applicable market VPO) o Source and evaluate vendor options o Lead all Requests for Proposals o Evaluate proformas for modeling accuracy o Negotiate on behalf of ASD for optimal service provision & cost o Ensure any vendor subsidization requests are reasonable, based on sound financial assessment, and fall within Fair Market Value o Engage Division or external legal counsel as required Evaluate current service provisions and PSAs o Examine facility needs vs. vendor staffing models Ensure current service meets all needs of physician partners and patient populations o Model and negotiate staffing and service changes to facilitate cost savings/avoidance, improved throughput, improved patient satisfaction o Ensure current PSA structure clearly defines required services/personnel availability o Ensure current PSA structure avails key service provision/financial data for effective ongoing monitoring Evaluate the stability of incumbent vendors o Predict future disruption o Proactively manage potential service interruption; where indicated initiate preemptive vendor change to ensure seamless facility coverage Proactively evaluate market strategies for cost savings/avoidance and service optimization o Multi-center bundle PSAs o Diversification of vendors where over-exposed o Implementation of acute pain services/comprehensive opioid sparing services Coordinate with enterprise Anesthesia Operations leadership on evaluation of employment options o Coordinate with internal/external counsel to ensure compliance with safe harbor provisions Align closely with corporate anesthesia resources (PRT & Employed) in monitoring market, state, and national anesthesia trends Collaborate with VPOs and facility administrators on surgical scheduling excellence for maximal anesthesia cost avoidance Provide SME to internal stakeholders in the design, negotiation, and implementation of bundled payments for care Works successfully with all levels of HCA Corporate, Group, Division and Facility leadership, as well as Clinical Services Group (CSG), Physician Services Group (PSG), and HBP leadership to: o Assess and determine best Anesthesia practices regarding quality, operations, and financial performance. Supports the strategic and operational goals and objectives of HCA and its affiliates. Leads the identification and implementation of optimal outcomes for anesthesia related engagements. Provides high quality presentations to all levels of leadership when requested Uses and develops sophisticated processes and procedures to gather and analyze critical information on the number of providers covered locations, shift requirements, staffing level and productivity assessments, on call requirements for multiple services, revenue cycle analysis, working closely with Facility leadership and providers to develop comprehensive recommendations and requests for proposals, analysis of vendor response comparisons, and recommendations about anesthesia services. Develops requests for proposals (RFPs), working with Division, Facility, HBP leadership, and legal to complete comparative analysis of RFP responses in a timely and accurate manner. Is accountable for following legal guidelines and executing any necessary contracts in a timely manner. Understands the critical nature of anesthesia services which are vital to the operations of HCA Hospitals and that failure to perform the duties of this position can result in the disruption and delay of vital patient care services. Serves as lead negotiator on complex agreements involving multiple millions of dollars that directly impacts the financial profitability and operational success of Divisions and Facilities. Develops and presents detailed staffing and coverage models, carries out complex discussion with physician vendors and negotiates contracts on behalf of Divisions and Facilities. Articulates contract terms for legal ops and contract administrator review. Works with Division and Facilities as needed on complex implementation plans. Serves as a key leader and liaison in working with our external fair market valuation (FMV) firms to ensure appropriate and commercially reasonable FMV outcomes. Serves as an important link during critical transition of HBP vendors to avoid disruption of HBP services at our Facilities. Takes initiative to develop steps and processes in an effort to proactively identify areas of opportunity within the HBP space. Interacts with Physician and Advanced Practice Provider (APP) leadership to ensure practice business needs are met and performance is sustainable. Works with Physician Services leaders to help assess employment opportunities within HBP. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: This position requires the following minimum requirements: Knowledge of anesthesia operations, hospital operations, organizational policies, procedures, systems and objectives Knowledge of fiscal management techniques Knowledge of health care administration systems Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements Ability to use various computer systems and applications Ability to successfully work within team based and matrixed environments Ability to plan, organize and supervise Ability to travel frequently if necessary Ability to complete complex engagements on time with desired results Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally Preferable for candidate to live in the Nashville, TN metro area, but not required. EDUCATION: A Master's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or Nursing is preferred. A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or Nursing is required. EXPERIENCE: Ten years experience in healthcare systems, consultant or operations management at Director level or higher. Effective working knowledge of Health Systems Management, Hospital Management, Healthcare Financial Management, Practice Management, Revenue Cycle Management, Third-party reimbursement issues, and patient flow. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: CRNA preferred Clinical knowledge and/or experience required.
