Assistant Project Manager - Structural Steel

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist with document control as required by the project manager and project engineer.
  • Facilitate and maintain working partnerships with customers, general contractors, and field employees.
  • Provide support in planning, coordination, and direction for pre-construction and construction management activities.
  • Aid in monitoring contractors' activities to track start dates for projects.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure schedule is being achieved.
  • Review structural drawings for constructability and application of WSE Standard details for field installation of material.
  • Review Approval Drawings to ensure detailers incorporated WSE Standard details and project-specific detailing notes.
  • Provide project controls, cost, and performance activities, including managing project submittals, RFIs, ongoing schedule reviews, compiling change orders, updates to project record drawings, inspections, and reports.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with issuing meeting minutes for the administration and tracking of relevant information and project statuses.
  • Monitor project schedules regarding submittals, approvals, and drawing releases. Identify and communicate possible delays or problems to the project management team.
  • Visit job sites as necessary and ensure that company interests and project expectations are being met.

Work Experience:
  • 5-10 years related experience in the structural steel industry OR
  • 5 years related experience as a Project Coordinator/Engineer or Assistant Project Manager along with 3 years detailing/drafting/computer modeling.

Education/Training:
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Structural/Civil Engineering, or Business may substitute for 3 years of the required experience.
  • Experience as a fabricator or erector may substitute for detailing/drafting experience.

Specialized Knowledge:
  • General knowledge of fabrication and erection standards and procedures.
  • General knowledge of AISC standards and AWS codes.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret shop and design blueprint drawings.
  • Proven ability to manage large multiple commercial and industrial projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting stringent deadlines.
