College of Health and Human ServicesDepartment of Public Health & NutritionNutrition & Dietetics Program The Department of Public Health & Nutrition at Eastern Illinois University is seeking a full time (12 months) tenure-track faculty member in Nutrition & Dietetics who will also serve as the director for our new Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD). The desired start date is July 1, 2024. This new program is evolving from our long-standing ACEND-accredited DPD program, and building on the strengths of our ACEND-accredited master's level Dietetic Internship program. Under the general supervision of the department chair of Public Health & Nutrition, the full-time CPD director is responsible for teaching in their area of expertise and overseeing the implementation of the Coordinated Program in conjunction with current Nutrition & Dietetics faculty. The Department seeks candidates who are committed to student learning, and the academic and clinical instruction of both undergraduate and master's students who are intent upon securing the RDN credential. Essential Duties: Program Director (50-62.5% of assigned load) Serve as the primary ambassador, spokesperson, and recruiter for the Coordinated Program in Nutrition & Dietetics; Coordinate with clinical preceptors at Dietetic Internship placement sites in conjunction with the Distance Education Dietetic Internship Coordinator (our existing MS Nutrition & Dietetics: DI option program); Ensure Dietetic Interns complete all required benchmarks by serving as faculty of record for the DI courses; Support the graduate school on all recruitment and marketing efforts for the Coordinated Program; Manage/participate in recruitment and DI match activities; Develop and oversee an assessment plan in alignment with the assessment culture of the University and in alignment with accreditation standards; Coordinate with University Legal Counsel and the Graduate School to facilitate approvals for Student Identified Site Placements, as needed; Other job-related duties as assigned Teaching (12.5-25% of assigned load) Demonstrated ability/potential for quality teaching; Teach at least 3 credits of coursework during the academic year; Design courses/syllabi in compliance with approved course proposals, complying with curriculum assessment and accreditation standards; Utilize a variety of teaching techniques, as appropriate for the content and delivery modality of the course; Maintain weekly office hours in compliance with the Faculty Agreement (contract); Determine grades of assignments and overall course performance as per the stated requirements in the syllabus. Provide appropriate documentation of grades to students and the University entities in a timely manner; Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Brightspace/D2L in instruction, record keeping, and data collection. Scholarship (12.5% of assigned load until tenure, opportunities for additional release time available) Conduct, present and/or publish research/scholarship; Involve students in scholarship as possible and appropriate Engage in ongoing professional development in the field. Service Participate in committees and other service opportunities at the departmental, college, university, community, state/region, and/or national level. Qualifications: Doctoral coursework complete by August 15, 2024 (doctoral degree required for tenure) Current RDN credentials Firm commitment to the role of diversity in all aspects of education, scholarship and Preferred Qualifications: DCN, D., Ed.D., Dr.HSc., or other appropriate doctoral degree from an accredited educational institution; Three years teaching experience; Dietetic Intern supervision experience; Administrative and ACEND accreditation experience; The Department of Public Health & Nutrition In January 2022, the Nutrition & Dietetics program merged with the Department of Public Health to form the Department of Public Health & Nutrition, part of the College of Health & Human Services. PHN houses five undergraduate major options, multiple minors, and 3 master's degree options. The Nutrition & Dietetics program began training future dietetic nutritionists and nutrition educations in 1965, and currently offers an ACEND-accredited DPD program and Master's degree DI option as well as a non-RDN Nutrition Education option. The DPD program plans to migrate to a Coordinated Program effective Fall 2024. There are 12 full-time academic and instructional faculty positions in the Department, including a dedicated undergraduate academic advisor and undergraduate internship coordinator. We have established preceptor relationships with 8 clinical sites and several community nutrition sites, as well as the capability of utilizing student-identified placements.
