The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the History and Organization of Sport in the United States, Sport Psychology, a Research Methods course, as well as other courses currently offered. In addition, our new colleague will have the opportunity to develop courses that complement our existing courses in Sport Studies. The teaching load is five courses per year. In keeping with Denison University's tradition as a leading national liberal arts college, the successful candidate will also run a productive research program at Denison, and contribute to activities outside of the classroom and laboratory at the level of the department, institution, and larger community. Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies, a relatively new major at Denison, is a thriving and vibrant program with approximately 150 majors. We are an academic community in which students receive ongoing professional mentorship and engagement throughout the undergraduate experience. Our objective is to facilitate an intellectual environment between faculty representing the three prongs of the major: health science, exercise science, and sport studies. The department also values collaborations with other disciplines on campus, including Neuroscience, Biology, Data Analytics, Black Studies, History, Psychology, and Global Health. Departmental and institutional support is available for teaching and research. Available support includes start-up research funds, an annual professional development account, eligibility for Denison University Research Foundation grant applications, stipends for choosing to supervise summer research students, and a one-semester pre-tenure leave contingent upon performance. Additionally, we have numerous professional development opportunities, including early career mentoring programs and the Center for Learning and Teaching. Denison is an increasingly diverse, highly selective, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 2,300 students from across the nation and around the world. The college is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, the state capital, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Granville offers an excellent public school system and easy access to outdoor activities. A Ph.D. in Sports Studies, Sport Psychology, Sport Sociology, Sport Economics, Kinesiology, or a related field, by the start of the position (August 15, 2024). ABD will be considered at the Instructor level until Ph.D obtained.
