Job Duties: Reports to the Division Head of Operative Dentistry in the Department of Comprehensive Care. Provides didactic, preclinical and clinical teaching and pursue of scholarly endeavors at DMD level. In clinic, the Operative Faculty instructs, evaluates and advises students regarding comprehensive patient care and is responsible for chair-side instruction in operative dentistry. In both the clinic and the preclinic, Operative Faculty must act as a role model and mentor while teaching the skills of ethics, patient relationship management, respect, professionalism. As an informed faculty member, the Operative Faculty communicates regularly and effectively with colleagues throughout the school ensures compliance with established protocols and standards and ensures the financial integrity of the clinic. Directs courses in operative dentistry division and provides didactic content and practice opportunities for students to prepare for patient care. The supervising faculty is responsible for overseeing the student throughout the whole process of placing a filling on a tooth. This includes examining the tooth clinically and through X-rays or other diagnostic exams, drilling and placing a filling. It includes ensuring that the filling replaces the diseased tissue, restores the tooth to function and esthetics. The supervising faculty ensures that treatments restores the occlusion (the way teeth come together and function during mastication). Overseeing restorative care of patients in the clinic. Requirements: DDS/DMD degree Dental licensure or eligibility for dental licensure in Massachusetts. Must have 4 years of dental experience. Experience can be gained through private dental practice as a dentist, dental education as faculty and/or through postdoc training or clinical education.
