The stability of a company with a record of strong financial performance and history of being actively involved in local communities THE OPPORTUNITY: The Assistant Microbiologist (Night Shift + Alternating Schedule: 6:30pm - 7:00am EST) will carry out the approved tests to comply with the department objectives in a laboratory that supports manufacturing. There are samples that will be collected from the manufacturing floor. Primary responsibilities include: Applying high quality scientific techniques in the microbiological analysis of raw ingredients, in-process production samples, finished product testing and environmental monitoring, to ensure that all products manufactured are fit for use Complete appropriate documentation, audit and release of commodities or products Complete housekeeping responsibilities including autoclave, waste disposal, general laboratory sanitation, etc. Ability to prepare media for test procedures Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) performance and compliance through active participation and support of Abbott's EHS Program. Partner with fellow technicians, with a high degree of motivation, attention to important details with clear communication to all team members. This is important due to the high degree of responsibility and working within a small group where each person is relied upon highly. Do all testing in the lab through instruction via manuals and through training Problem solving when test results are out-of-specification to assign a cause and rule lab error SHIFT AND PAY This position's start rate is $23.00 per hour + a 5% shift differential. The hours are 6:30 pm to 7:00 am on a rotating schedule which provides every other weekend off. SCHEDULE EXAMPLE: WEEK 1: Monday: 12 hours, Tuesday: 12 hours, Wednesday: OFF, Thursday: OFF, Friday: 12 hours, Saturday: 12 hours, & Sunday: 12 hours WEEK 2: Monday: OFF, Tuesday: OFF, Wednesday: 12 hours, Thursday: 12 hours, Friday: OFF, Saturday: OFF, & Sunday: OFF WEEK 3: Monday: 12 hours, Tuesday: 12 hours, Wednesday: OFF, Thursday: OFF, Friday: 12 hours, Saturday: 12 hours, & Sunday: 12 hours REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma / GED 1 year of appropriate college science with lab (biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, organic chemistry, or biochemistry) 1 year college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or calculus) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors or Associates Degree in science related field 2+ years laboratory experience Experience in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment APPLY NOW Participants who complete a short wellness assessment qualify for FREE coverage in our HIP PPO medical plan.
