Assistant Director of Psychology designs and implements supervision, training, and quality assurance processes for the Psychology Department staff, and for key direct support staff training and performance coaching initiatives, in collaboration with the Director of Psychology. This position oversees three supervisory level psychological associates and/or licensed behavior analysts, who coordinate a range of assessment and treatment services to approximately 80 residents in one of three neighborhoods at the Center with significant intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, and many with significant behavior disorders and psychiatric diagnoses. Services provided by the psychology staff include conducting behavior assessments and functional analyses; planning, developing and evaluating training and treatment programs, some of which contain protective and/or restrictive procedures (50% of residents overseen have some level of positive behavior supports ranging from non-restrictive (60%) to some type of restrictive procedure (40% that require due process approval with the human rights committee; providing staff training; and participating in interdisciplinary team processes that may include leading discussions using data to guide teams in decisions regarding behavior support planning, training and treatment. The Assistant Director of Psychology ensures supervision and training of the psychology staff is continuous and thoroughgoing to maintain a level of quality that provides for genuine choice to the residents of JIRDC. This position also works in collaboration with program administration residential services in the design and implementation of various training initiatives to build the abilities of the essential direct support staff at JIRDC. The position is supervised by the Director of Psychology. Per G.S. 126-5(c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7. Knowledge and skills in assessment of intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, in terms of behavioral assessment and observations. Knowledge and skills in behavior analysis through functional behavior assessment and analog functional analysis in assessment and treatment of persons with significant learning and behavior disorders. Knowledge and skills in the evaluation of training, treatment, and behavior support programs, including the use of graphic analysis. Knowledge and skills to train staff to conduct training and treatment, and behavior support programs. Knowledge of general ethical, clinical, administrative and social policy issues in intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, and ability to relate these issues to concepts and practices at the Center.
