Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists in the management, coordination and maintenance of an efficient, productive, and organized nursing department. In absence of the Director of Nursing (DON), shall have administrative authority over and responsibility for the functions and activities of the nursing department. Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the State in which employed. The ADON is a member of the Nursing Administrative team. Will rotate "on-call" with members of this team.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Supervises direct nursing care and services.
  • Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is indicated.
  • Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment is maintained.
  • Oversees the accuracy and completion of clinical documentation per FV policy, and State and Federal regulations
  • Coordinates, conducts, and documents the MDS, resident care plans and conference in the absence of the MDS nurse.
  • Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation of nursing staff.
  • Participates in family/resident counseling.
  • Assumes administrative authority for clinical departments in the absence of the DON.
  • Serves as an INTERACT Champion.
  • Assures effective communication with all shifts and department as it relates to resident care.
  • Assists in developing, organizing and implementing nursing services and programs. Assures adherence to clinical policies and procedures within departmental guidelines.
  • Effectively communicates policies, expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and work procedures to the nursing staff.
  • Assists with implementation and evaluation of quality of care including on-going auditing of Quality Indicators.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers to assure appropriate care and compliance with State and/or Federal regulations.
  • Provide specific orientation to nursing staff including completion of the clinical skills check-list, EMR and other FV systems.
  • Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in performing those supervisory activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including provision for the selection and development of employees, salary and budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, disciplinary action, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department. Manages department time records/payroll corrections through the Friendship Village Payroll and Time keeping systems.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • BSN from an accredited college or university desired.
  • Three years nursing management experience in senior care preferred.
  • Geriatric/rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of restorative nursing.

Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Experienced with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

Demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.

Ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with an attention to detail.

Work collaboratively in a team environment that promotes inclusiveness and communication among team members.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Long Term Care - RN or LPN required.

CPR certification required.
