Summary/Objective The Assistant Director of the Laboratory is responsible for the lab supervisors and their daily day to day duties. The Assistant Director of the Laboratory must provide support and work closely with the Director of the Laboratory to ensure the highest quality and services are maintained. This clinical position requires skills and experience in ensuring all aspects of testing activities are maintained and take responsibility for projects delegated by the Director of the Laboratory. The Assistant Director of the Laboratory must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the door of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. •   Assesses the department's hiring needs, schedules interviews and starts the hiring process to fill all vacancies in the Laboratory. Assumes responsibility for routine monitoring of all aspects of time and attendance, overtime, productivity and monitoring of hospital behavioral expectations with all laboratory employees to include performance evaluations and any progressive corrective actions using our Just Culture Algorithm. This in addition to processing of payroll and monitoring the appropriate utilization of all supplies within the department in keeping within budgetary guidelines. Manages the timely collection of data and preparation of all Performance Improvement; Quality Metrics for reporting to various hospital committees and works directly with the Laboratory Director to ensure the Laboratory and Personnel maintain CAP accreditation readiness at all times. Utilizes specialized knowledge of laboratory services, principles and procedures in daily laboratory operations and personnel within the department. Bases decision making on sound principles related to good judgment and cost containment within the Department. Maintains awareness of current developments and trends in the provision of laboratory services; responsible for maintaining current policies/procedure and employee competency assessments, encouraging professional development of personnel in the Clinical Laboratory and other Hospital departments related to laboratory services functions. Participates in Laboratory and Hospital planning activities, Quality monitors and committees as assigned by the Laboratory Director. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 3 years of supervisory experience. Required License/Certifications Must complete an approved training program for Medical Technologist with ASCP certification.
