JOB PURPOSE The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Services oversees the execution of the Fitness and Wellness Services program consisting of paid personal training (including personal training, private Pilates, and small group training) and free BeWell-Eligible Personal Training and Fitness Assessments. In this role, your focus will be on reaching the broad Stanford community to support their recreational and wellness goals through engaging in effective, inclusive, and exceptional programming. Your responsibilities will include: Staff Management (40%)
•  Coordinate one-on-one Fitness and Wellness Services by providing leadership to program staff. Responsible for the daily management of staff, including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, motivation, and retention. Plan, organize and facilitate training, work assignments, evaluations, and if needed, disciplinary action for personnel. Trains staff in the use of the recreational facilities, fitness assessment equipment, and software program(s). Ensures customer encounters are courteous, respectful, and efficient. Administrative Responsibilities (30%)
•  Assist in administration of the software system(s) related to the Fitness and Wellness Services program. Collect and compile operational and statistical data to determine and improve methods and procedures to better serve the program and campus community. Collect satisfaction surveys and customer response forms; create reports and recommend solutions. Ensure prompt and effective verbal and written communication with staff, participants, and supervisor. Program Management (30%)
•  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the one-on-one Fitness and Wellness Services program, consisting of paid personal training (including personal training, private Pilates, and small group training) and free BeWell-Eligible Personal Training and Fitness Assessments. Formulate innovative and creative methods of recruiting, retaining, and serving members of the campus community. Review, evaluate, and recommend changes to the policies and procedures relating to the operations of Fitness and Wellness Services, with constant regard to program objectives and the department's strategic plan. Organize and/or conduct personal training certification classes for revenue generation and staff recruitment. Ensure policies and procedures are followed in accordance with established safety and risk management standards. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with University and/or community representatives, vendors, and other regular contacts. Ancillary Responsibilities:
•  Engage in professional development as approved to keep abreast of current trends and issues. Maintain all necessary certifications related to job responsibilities. Exercise flexibility to work evening or weekend hours as needed. Perform other duties as assigned including serving on relevant committees serving as proxy for the Director of Fitness, Wellness, and Inclusion on occasion. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Master's degree in exercise related field preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•  Advanced knowledge of current personal training, Pilates, and fitness assessment approaches, trends, risk management, and best practices. Ability to lead a large, diverse team of part-time staff, including student management strategies. Strong verbal and oral communication skills. Ability to develop programs to attract and retain participants and generate revenue. Ability to coordinate daily activities including work scheduling, quality assurance, monitoring of activities, and supervision of personnel. Ability to meet expected deadlines and schedules. Demonstrated ability to set priorities to perform a high volume of detailed work with constant interruptions. Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service. Engagement in NIRSA, IRSA, or other recreation or sport professional associations. Working knowledge of applications such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Skills to work with and successfully manipulate software such as Fusion, Connect2Concepts, or When2Work. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds. Certifications and Licenses
•  Nationally recognized personal training or group fitness certification required. Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
•  Ability to exert physical effort, including the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., bending, squatting, reaching, or being on feet for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS
•  May need to work flexible hours to meet the business needs of the position. May need to work occasional extended hours. This position is primarily in person with the occasional ability to work from home. WORK STANDARDS

This position is responsible for ensuring that his/her/their involvement with Athletics Department activities maintains the integrity of the University's reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA and Pac-12 rules and regulations. The expected pay for this position is $66,560-80,600 per annum.
