About the Company & Assistant Controller Opportunity:

  • Our new client is a PE backed manufacturer in the Baltimore area. Due to a retirement, they are hiring an Assistant Controller to join their accounting team on a short term contract OR contract to hire basis.
  • This Assistant Controller will work with a small and lean, tight knit accounting team. This company is big on internal development and promoting from within.
  • Typical schedule: M-F 8am-5pm, 100% on site in Halethorpe, MD
  • Reports directly to the CFO
  • Ideal start: Week of April 15, 2024
    • Candidates should be able to jump into this role immediately and able to commit for the duration of the project

Job Duties of the Assistant Controller:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for review
  • Compile periodic KPI reporting and distribute to management
  • Ensure timely completion of the monthly close process
  • Perform reconciliations of key accounts and assist junior staff in reconciliations
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions, including allocations and consolidations
  • Develop management estimates and supporting documentation
  • Administer payables, proper expense recording, and extension of payment terms
  • Oversee the proper maintenance of vendor records
  • Review payroll and perform benefits processing/analysis
  • File sales/use, property, and estimated income tax returns/payments for all entities
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly investor reporting and board presentations
  • Assist in the annual audit process and provide information to outside accountants for preparation of income tax returns
  • Assist in the annual budget process
  • File and distribute 1099 reporting
  • Integrate and upload historical data for acquired entities into the financial reporting/accounting system

Qualifications of the Assistant Controller:

  • Must be a strong team player. This is a VERY team oriented and collaborative environment. Must be okay with being hands on, getting in the weeds, and doing all levels of work from AP and AR to financial reporting and month end and mentoring lower level accounting staff
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related required
  • 5+ years' senior level accounting experience required
    • Experience with financial reporting and month end close
  • Experience using QuickBooks, NetSuite, and/or MS Dynamics products a plus
    • System implementation experience a plus
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data validation)
  • Manufacturing industry accounting experience preferred
    • Experience with inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment HIGHLY preferred
    • Import business experience a plus
  • Strong GAAP knowledge
