Shady Side Academy (SSA) seeks an Assistant Athletic Director-a highly organized contributor with exceptional interpersonal skills. This integral leader with the Athletics Office is responsible for administering and supporting the planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of the Academy's athletic programs. Shady Side understands the value of athletics extends beyond the playing field. At SSA, athletics are an integral part of the educational experience for all students in grades 6-12. Therefore, a successful candidate for this position will understand the importance of promoting athletic activities that foster relational coaching, skill development, a broad understanding and appreciation of various athletic activities, sportsmanship, and respect among students. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with the oversight and administration of athletic department operations, including budgeting, safety programs, site inspections, ticket sales to ensure compliance with relevant requirements. Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department and the senior and middle schools, coordinating with departments such as Transportation & Facilities, College Counseling, Dining, Resident Life, Marketing and Communications, Admissions, and the Dean of Students. Be present or arrange for a school representative to be present at all Senior School home events. Oversee the recruitment, evaluation, promotion, and termination processes for head coaches, assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches. Review all athletic exemption applications. Communicate/meet with students and/or parents if necessary to discuss applications. Facilitate collaboration between student-athletes and the college counseling office and communicate relevant information to coaches and families. Facilitate the evaluation of prospective student-athletes by coordinating communication between coaches, interested students, families, and admissions. Prepare newsletters, employee booklets/handbooks, and booster communications. Fulfill other duties and tasks assigned by the supervisor. Perform as a Varsity Head Coach or Assistant Coach, as appropriate. Effectively communicate in both oral and written formats, ensuring clarity and respect in all interactions. Skilled in addressing diverse audiences, including students, coaches, parents, and external stakeholders. Capable of conveying information accurately and respectfully through various formats, including in-person, email communication, and website and calendar information. LEADERSHIP SKILLS - Possesses strong listening skills and demonstrates empathy. Upholds confidentiality, exhibits honesty and integrity, maintaining professionalism in challenging situations. Assumes responsibility and upholds high standards for oneself and team members. Motivates and empowers others, exhibiting optimism, enthusiasm, and excitement for the Academy and its strategic vision. Cultivates an environment of trust and mutual respect, offering and receiving constructive feedback. TECHNOLOGY SKILLS - Communicates effectively and respectfully with colleagues using diverse technological platforms. Proficient in common software, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Schedule Star, and other athletics management software tools OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Maintain high emotional energy, promptly address staff inquiries, and maintain a constructive and proactive approach with staff. Act as an ambassador for the Academy, showcasing skills in discretion, confidentiality, flexibility and adaptability to change. Exhibits patience, sound judgment, and reasoning abilities. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding and accommodating the needs of diverse personality types. Engages in professional development through workshops and seminars. Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor's Degree. 5+ years experience with athletics administration. Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation: Salary is competitive with area independent schools and commensurate with experience. Excellent health and retirement benefits are part of the employment package.
