Arborist Technician Supervisor I

Job Description

Under general direction, you will be responsible for the assignment and supervision of Arborist technician crews performing various urban forestry maintenance tasks and duties. This includes the removal of trees and other vegetation while performing related duties as needed.

Important and Essential Duties:

As an Arborist Technician Supervisor, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Supervise and direct a crew of Arborist technicians in the pruning and removal of trees and limbs, exercise judgment in appraising condition of trees, especially with regard to public safety.

Supervise the use and maintenance of rigging and other equipment.

Operate chipper and drive aerial lift equipment vehicles, heavy loader trucks or other required vehicles, also operate other materials and equipment used in trimming and caring for trees.

Maintain a record of work activities, daily timesheets, overtime sheets, vehicle & equipment maintenance records, and prepare required reports.

Conduct and document safety training and briefings to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Investigate and respond to complaints, requests, and calls concerning city trees.

Ordering work supplies and equipment.

May occasionally perform Arborist technician duties as needed.

Working conditions:

This position requires responsibility for scheduling work and directing methods and procedures used in topping and trimming trees and other vegetation, involving hazards to employees or public safety. Nature of duties involves occasional participation in tree topping work requiring considerable physical effort and manual dexterity with exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements and working conditions.
