Job Purpose

The purpose of the Applications Sr. Engineer role is to implement plans for transformative systems and applications strategy design for the AHM IT Development & Manufacturing Systems (DMS) Division and complete the development and execution of Manufacturing Systems Applications (MSA) technical roadmaps and standards to meet North America Enterprise IT vision and strategy objectives. This is a pivotal role that will be a catalyst for DMS Division's success in the realization of AHM and HDMA's digital transformation business objectives. The Applications Sr. Engineer will work with internal strategic partners across AHM and HDMA spanning all NA manufacturing plants, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Supply Chain, and Design Center functions.

The Applications Sr. Engineer has the responsibility to provide strategic counsel to MSA leadership to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective systems and applications and/or services for all aspects of the organization. This role will also consult with internal architecture teams and Senior Applications Sr. Engineers within the MSA department to comply with application architectures and new standards, policies, procedures, best practices, and target state as it relates to the systems and applications deployed for support of NA automobile, powertrain, and powersports manufacturing operations delivery.



Key Accountabilities

  • Work with and provide counsel on strategic initiatives to a broad range of individual contributors (business analysts, project managers, software developers, architects, senior Applications Sr. Engineers, etc) within the North America region.
  • Lead small and medium sized projects (medium complexity) to completion and provide consulting support while engaging multiple stakeholders both within North America region.
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of application solutions.
  • Implement and maintain current and target state application and database architectures.
  • Assist other Senior Applications Sr. Engineers with definition and management of application technology standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure best quality.
  • Consult with external application solution providers to ensure successful implementation and support of third-party application solutions.
  • Oversee end-to-end systems development life cycle management activities for small to medium sized initiatives.
  • Participate in the maintenance, optimization, and configuration tuning of manufacturing IT production applications.
  • Participate in the provisioning, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery of manufacturing IT production applications.
  • Assist the Senior Applications Sr. Engineer with application Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and execution in accordance with RPO/RTO and defined SLAs.
  • Assists with evaluation of emerging technologies.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems and/or equivalent industry experience.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience with the following:

  • Managing enterprise level applications.
  • Developing reference architecture, principles, and standards.
  • Working with relational database technologies (SQL, DB2, etc.).
  • Developing and managing Web applications
  • Development using Object Oriented Programming with Java or .Net
  • Writing customized T-SQL

Minimum 2 years of experience:

  • Modern concepts such as microservices, container-based development, DevOps, and Cloud deployment
  • Developing using SOAP and RestAPI
  • Development with ETL such as SSIS
  • Good knowledge of data management, data integration, and database development techniques.
  • Ability to relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needs.
  • Ability to regularly learn and adopt new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and work with diverse project teams.
