SOUTH BAY UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST POSITION DEFINITION: To assist pupils to attain the greatest possible benefit from their educational experiences by facilitating a teaching-learning environment. Services include consultations, evaluations, counseling and conferencing. RESPONSIBLE TO: Under the leadership and direction of the Director, Pupil Personnel, and immediately responsible to the Director, Pupil Personnel and to the Principal of the schools assigned. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works with other special services staff in a coordinated effort. 2. Gathers basic information necessary for the understanding of the pupil such as educational history and motivation patterns. 3. Recommends appropriate planning for optimal educational and personality growth. 4. Confers with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professional staff in order to help in the understanding and planning for pupils. 5. Screens and assesses intellectual and educational characteristics of pupils by administering individual psychological tests and observation. 6. Determines eligibility for certification and recommends placement of pupils in state-regulated special programs. 7. Interprets psychological evaluations to parents, regarding their child's potential achievement level, and personality adjustment, counsels and consults with parents, and makes referrals to other agencies when indicated. 8. Counsels individual and/or groups of pupils regarding test findings, academic growth, social and/or emotional development, behavioral problems and general career development. 9. Consults with other agencies and professionals, both public and private. 10. Facilitates communication with District personnel. 11. Participates in Building Level Assessment Team (BLAT) and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings as required. 12. Participates in the planning, implementing, and assessing of special and general educational programs. 13. Provides for and participates in appropriate in-service trainings programs. 14. Participates in research projects. 15. Maintains professional competency through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities including community service. 16. Attends regular and special meetings called by the principal or Director, Pupil Personnel. 17. Shares in the sponsorship of school activities and participates in faculty committees. CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess valid California public school credential authorizing public school service in school psychology. Requirements / Qualifications Requirements / Qualifications
