Position Summary: Assists anesthesiologists by setting up and ordering necessary supplies and equipment for surgeries. Completes preventative maintenance on all machines and equipment used in the anesthesia department. Job Requirement Education/Experience: Graduation from high school and one (1) year experience as an anesthesia technician or two (2) years of clinical experience working in a hospital setting. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements Knowledge of: Equipment and supplies needed on anesthesia carts for all age groups; medical terminology; aseptic technique; pharmaceuticals used in anesthetic procedures; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices. Skill in: Anesthesia machine checks; calibrating oxygen flow; performing Leak tests; adjusting date x monitors; sterilizing various equipment used in anesthesia procedures; using computer and variety of software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting, stamina to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
