The Process Analytical Technology (PAT) group is part of Lilly's Indianapolis Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (IAPI) site, within the Technical Services / Manufacturing Science (TS/MS) function. The team supports efficient on-line and at-line analytical instrumentation in IAPI manufacturing, reducing turnaround times and providing continuous support for the site's operations. The team is responsible for maintenance and continuous improvement of the site's PAT equipment. The PAT group works closely with engineering, automation, manufacturing, information technology, and process teams to achieve its objectives.



Responsibilities

Assist with projects and provide daily maintenance and technical support of process analytical instrumentation for control of production processes in Indy API Operations.




Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Work safely and continually seek improvements to both people and equipment safety
  • Drive a safety culture that will influence behavior for an injury free environment
  • Proactively perform daily routine checks of the installed on-the-floor production analytical instrumentation to ensure proper operation
  • Ensure knowledge and understanding of process to adequately troubleshoot and correct issues related to analytical instrumentation
  • Share team responsibilities to provide 24 hour on-call support of PAT instrumentation
  • Comfortable troubleshooting and attempting to resolve issues independently
  • Understanding and knowledge of local and divisional procedures
  • Good documentation techniques for logbooks and work orders
  • Effective communications - includes communication with supervision, Operations, various support staff, and other PAT techs
  • Provide information for root cause investigations
  • Identification and follow up of compliance gaps
  • Influence decisions to resolve issues based on objective information and data
  • Maintain training at defined levels
  • Support the development of PAT instrumentation by applying PAT knowledge and theory
  • Support variability reduction activities



Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associates degree or 3+ years of experience in a regulated/GMP industry relating to analytical instrumentation or chemistry, with an understanding of software applications
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry, preferably supporting analytical equipment.
  • Understanding and/or experience with the following technologies: HPLC / UPLC / GC, UV / VIS / Mass Spec, pH, conductivity, turbidity, refractive index, and TOC
  • Troubleshooting skills to resolve issues based on objective information and metrics
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of fluidics preferred
  • Experience in equipment commissioning and qualification processes
  • Experience working with validated systems
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems, i.e. Maximo (GMARS)
  • Knowledge in data historians, and IT platforms such as servers and workstations
  • Ability to work well with people of other cultures and international Lilly sites
  • High attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service skills

  • Open shift availability (Days, Nights, Weekends, 8 or 12 hr. rotating shift potential options)
  • Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes according to production schedule / coverage needs
  • Potential limited exposure(s) to known allergens, hazardous chemicals
  • Tasks may require working in environments of varying climate conditions
  • Job is fast-paced with changing priorities
  • Required to move about freely in production environment that contains catwalks, open stairs, stepping over and around pumps, process lines and equipment
  • The ability to lift 10L of liquid (25 lbs) is required
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, capital projects, etc.
