The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is currently looking civilian Airplane Pilot Instructor, GS-2181-32 at the 49th Fighter Training Squadron at Columbus AFB, Columbus, MS. This position is a TERM position NOT to exceed 31 Sep 2025, but may be extended. This location has a Special Rate Salary: - rates/2024/Table.aspx Recruitment incentives based on eligibilityIn this role, you will serve the ground and airborne flight instruction/evaluator pilot per the USAF Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (IFF) T-38C (AETC Syllabus B/F-V5A-K) and Basic Fighter Introduction (International) (AETC Syllabus B/F-V5A-I) syllabus in Basic Fighter Maneuvers and Basic Surface Attack at installations performing IFF training.

Serving as a pilot in command during flying and simulator training missions and to provide instruction to pilots in methods of instruction and to evaluate their proficiency to engage in flight instruction. To perform special projects involving comparable responsibility and skill; or combinations of these assignments. Minimum Flight Hour Requirements (Flight Logs are mandatory): - 1500 Total Flight Hours - 75 Night Flying Hours - 75 flight hours of Instrument Time (at least 10 hours must be in actual instrument conditions) - 500 Instructor Time Flight Hours (Fixed Wing) - 1000 FP/MP/IP/EP hours with a minimum of 300 Fighter PIC hours OR - 500 FP/MP/IP/EP Fighter PIC hours AND - 4-Ship Flight Lead Qualification (or equivalent for USN or USMC) - Previous Fighter Instructor or Previous T-38 IFF Instructor NOTE: Most recent fighter time will need to be within the last 5 years Required documents (not providing all documentation will cause application delays): - Flight Logs - Flight Physical - FAA Certifications - Military Flight Evaluation Folder - DD 214 (or In Lieu of Letter) if applicable - SF 50 (if applicable) if applicable Qualifications:
• Must be a US Civilian
• This is designated drug testing position
• Ability to obtain/maintain flight physical
• Must be current in (or able to pass) Altitude Chamber and Centrifuge Training
• Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret Clearance
• Experience as a rated military fighter aviator (pilot) is critical to the successful completion of assigned duties.
• Knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures; aerodynamics, flying fundamentals, aircraft instrumentation, ground and flight emergency procedures, and instrument and visual flight rules, as well as knowledge of training aircraft, and of the operation, characteristics, and limitations of the corresponding aircraft simulator.
• Knowledge of the rules, concepts, techniques, procedures, and operations of flying training programs and objectives related to combat systems training.
• Knowledge of effective training principles, techniques, and tools required to develop, instruct, evaluate, improve, and conduct training.
• Skill in demonstrating flying procedures and maneuvers in a unit aircraft.
• Ability to formulate plans and courses pertaining to flying operations and unit flying training activities
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing to include classroom instruction before large and small audiences.
