Job Description

This position is in the Airport Commission, Facilities Division, and reports to the Director of Maintenance. The Airfield Maintenance Manager is responsible for coordinating airfield maintenance work primarily concerning painting, electrical, paving activities, and emergency repairs. The position schedules night shift activities related to airfield maintenance and repair at the San Francisco International Airport.

Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate, prioritize and schedule airfield maintenance activities for the paint, electrical, and pavement work needed to ensure FAR Part 139 compliance, which may include other facility maintenance trade related work.

Manage second-level supervisors and others in organizing and scheduling work activities and personnel assignments.

Ensure compliance with approved operating procedures, policies, and standards by providing effective leadership to subordinate staff via motivation, recognition, proper training, and progressive discipline when necessary.

Assist in the development, review, analysis, interpretation, investigation, implementation, and enforcement of rules, regulations, codes, operating methods, procedures, policies, and written reports relevant to airfield maintenance activities.

Evaluate and coordinate nightly maintenance activities, maintaining situational awareness of airfield activities and keeping stakeholders informed of any condition affecting airfield safety and operations.

Provide fiscal management by assisting in the preparation and execution of the Division's annual budget.

Review and approve cost estimates and track costs relating to airfield maintenance and construction projects.

Prepare written reports and make formal presentations to Airport management.

Serve as primary point of contact with Airfield Operations regarding airfield maintenance activities.

Establish and maintain positive working relationships and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with colleagues, airport management, airfield operations, subordinate staff, skilled trades, airport duty managers, tenants, contractors, other stakeholders and outside agency representatives.

Use a computer to write complex reports, performance appraisals, and to access department/division databases such as Maximo, PeopleSoft, SFOTime.

Perform periodic field inspections to ensure conformity with expected work practices and standards; participating in departmental and City-wide emergency response team(s).

Responds to emergencies, including during off-duty hours, on repairs affecting airfield operations.

Supervises various trades performing maintenance work on the graveyard shift.

Perform related duties as required.
