Summary You will serve as an Aircraft Mechanic in the F/A-18 Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER WEST located at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. Duties You will perform a full range of aircraft mechanic duties: disassembling components/systems, troubleshooting, replacing, modifying and testing a variety of systems e.g. hydraulic, oil, fuel, landing gear assemblies and pressurization systems You will annotate critical discrepancies or issues discovered during the processing of aircraft to provide feedback to quality assurance and engineering personnel. You will analyze guidance (e.g., blueprints, raw data, instructions, technical directives, maintenance instructions) to plan work involving the rework, repair, and modification of aircraft. You will Use hand tools, torque wrenches, pneumatic wrenches, guns, drills, measuring devices, and test equipment to repair aircraft systems, engines, or components. You will be required to have regular and predictable attendance, which is an essential function of this position. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks performing routine aircraft maintenance and repair on fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies; performing functional and operational test on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies and components; troubleshooting aircraft systems sufficient to determine if functioning properly or requires adjustments; using a wide variety of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, snap rings, micrometers and hand tools e.g.; reading and interpreting a variety of blueprints, specifications, diagrams and instructions to perform as an aircraft mechanic. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including performing routine aircraft maintenance and repair on fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies; performing functional and operational test on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies and components; troubleshooting aircraft systems sufficient to determine if functioning properly or requires adjustments; and reading and interpreting simple blueprints, diagrams and instructions to perform as an aircraft mechanics. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I have the ability to perform common tasks including assisting mechanics with routine maintenance and repair on fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft systems; following oral and written instructions: knowledge of tools and equipment related to the trade. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. I have the ability to perform simple tasks, or I have received training on this type of work. I do not have on-the-job training, or the abilities described above.
