Aircraft Mechanic with Security Clearance

Duties The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) performing such duties as removing, installing, adjusting, aligning, inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components such as airframe, landing gear, power plant, gear boxes, pumps, and hydraulic, pressurization, utility, fuel, oil, pneumatic, and flight control systems and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. Duties include: Performs inspection and troubleshooting on a variety of aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components in accordance with applicable technical orders/commercial manuals (C40 only) and specifications. Positions, maintains, disassembles, repairs, and reassembles aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components in accordance with applicable technical orders and specifications. Accomplishes aircraft maintenance and equipment record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Verifies and certifies work processes and procedures and adequacy of work accomplished by certified co-workers and trainees. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. Performs uncommon tours of duty. Performs other duties as assigned. Hourly Rate: $30.16 - $35.18 AFSC: 2A574 Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the make-up, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies including, but not limited to fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engines, landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces. Knowledge of a wide variety of parts, components, subsystems, and assemblies such as ejection seats, nuclear shielding, or similar self-contained systems. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of supply procedures, applicable publications, tools, equipment and material accounting, security, and documentation procedures. Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, and external power sources. Skill in reading and understanding instructions, schematics and diagrams, specifications, blueprints, technical orders, data, and settings from aircraft instruments and gauges. Ability to rig, operationally test, and/or troubleshoot systems; determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced; and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites and Low Observable (LO). Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces.
