This position is located within the Manufactured Food Program of the Food Safety Division of the GDA.

The Manufactured Food Program is responsible for protecting consumers' health by ensuring that food in Georgia is prepared in a clean environment and honestly presented.
The Manufactured Foods Section employs specialists, which conduct random, unannounced inspections of food manufacturing facilities and warehouse distribution facilities, including processing plants, wholesale bakeries, bottled water, and drink processors.
Manufactured food compliance specialists collect food and water samples during inspections and review sanitation practices and product labels.
All manufactured food compliance specialists must complete advanced training in various specialized processing operations.

Each position is assigned a specific territory in which they must reside.

Job Summary:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Inspects and investigates food manufacturing establishments for compliance with applicable health and sanitation laws and regulations.
Performs duties in a manner to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Model Ordinance (MO) requirements.
Collects food samples, environmental swabs, and water samples as necessary.
Transports samples to laboratories for analysis within the prescribed methods and timeframe.
Serves as a technical expert within the program of assignment.
Performs State/FDA Contract Inspections, HACCP Inspections, Shellfish Inspections, and other specialized inspections as assigned.
Maintains a working knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations, and guidance documents.
Attends training sessions, meetings, and conferences.
Follows an educate while you regulate approach and provides guidance and knowledge to industry and other personnel regarding health and food sanitation, rules and regulations, and their enforcement.
Maintains working relationships with the food industry and related entities, including federal, state, and local agencies.
Prepares and completes agency, state, and federal forms as required.
Maintains all State issued equipment properly.
Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or related area from an accredited college or university; or certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)
Completion of a 4-year degree in Animal Science, Chemistry, or any related field.
4-6 months of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations associated with the Food Industry.
Working knowledge of Windows Office Suites, Digital Health Department.
