AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM LEADER (ASES/ELO-P/ASSETS) JOB SUMMARY After-School Program Leader, under the supervision of the After-School Program Advisor and the direct supervision of the Program Grant Manager/Assistant Grant Manager, will coordinate academic and enrichment activities that help students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills through collaborative interactions with site staff, students, parents, and community. Will also provide direct assistance and tutoring to students in the after-school program and organize and provide recreation and enrichment activities. The focus of this program and staff members within the program is to provide a high-quality after school program that ensures a safe, nurturing learning environment that addresses the unique stages of students in grades TK-12. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Application of: Oral and written English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic processes; effective and efficient communication techniques, strategies and procedures; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Child growth and development principles; Behavioral management strategies; Techniques necessary to supervise games, plan, organize and direct art/craft activities, and education enhancement projects; Understand and knowledge of development of school age children; Oral communication skills in Spanish desirable. Ability to: Communicate effectively in oral and written form Understand and carry out oral and written directions Lead the activities of others and direct the work of programs impacting academic support, recreation, social and cultural activities Perform appropriately in situations, utilizing tact, initiative, and good judgment Maintain enthusiasm for and while working within a specialized program Assist with setup and maintenance of program facilities Perform minor maintenance as necessary; check equipment for safety Assist in maintaining accurate records within various areas of the program Ensure the adherence to safe work practices and procedures Answer telephone and assist the general public Attend meetings and learning workshops as requested Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time See for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students Hear and understand speech at normal levels Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation Meet schedules and deadlines Plan and organize, utilize time management and organizational skills Work confidentially Establish and maintain cooperative working, relationships with staff, students, parents and other Maintain a safe and positive atmosphere while working with children in groups of varying sizes not to exceed program ratios and independently Work within program schedules Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations Read, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures Lift, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run, and crawl Perform light physical exertion Lift 25 pounds Carry 15 pounds Operate modern office equipment including computerized systems and appropriate software applications Communicate in another language desirable - target language: Spanish Reach in all directions (physically) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION May include, but not limited to: Assist in the development and coordination of a variety of activities for children Assist in development of lessons and activities, preparation of materials Project genuine enthusiasm about working with children Assist in maintaining various kinds of records including, but not limited to: attendance, fees collected, snacks, etc. as well as evaluation or assessment activities Organize and lead enrichment activities focused on positive youth development and recreational activities (such as games, songs, arts & crafts, health and nutrition, visual and performing arts, music, physical activities, science, technology, and engineering activities) Assist students, individually or in small groups, with homework or lesson assignments for the purpose of implementing and/or reinforcing learning concepts Assist in interpreting operational procedures to those persons contacting the After-School Program office Assist in parental notifications (telephone and/or written form) Input in meetings, training sessions, and professional learning opportunities to improve program quality standards Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students (facilities, equipment, etc.) Assist the general public as necessary Assist in the set up and maintenance of program facilities Actively supervise students in a variety of settings and manage student behavior Facilitate student engagement and provide supervision of students on field trips Perform related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of the site after school program Maintain CPR/First Aide certification Education / Experience: High school diploma or GED required AA Degree or Verifiable Two (2) years post-secondary education Advanced education/coursework Experience or formal training equal to two (2) years working within child-centered environment; Child Development courses/units desirable, and/or training in the implementation of instructional methodologies, child development, student assessment or NCLB Certification required One (1) year experience in providing various methods of instruction, including direct instruction, in an education environment desirable Conditions of Employment: Basic First Aid and CPR certification Salary Range: N-Classified Salary Schedule This position is considered classified; funded in part or entirely through one or more program grants awarded to the district: After School Education and Safety Program (ASES), Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P), and 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETS). The employment contract will be viewed as a living document to allow opportunity to meet the needs of the program; and, may be modified, as program needs change.
