Advisor to Networking Director

We are seeking an Advisor to the Network Director for a Part-Time role in Austin, TX.

Public sector experience (Federal, State, or Local Government) is required for this role.

The advisor will bring additional guidance and experience to the network. This position will participate in building the Network Services team, facilitating between large projects with the Network Services Team and the Managed Network Services Vendor, assisting with developing policies and procedures, performing systems analysis, and participating in roadmap development. Reports to the Network Section Director.

The worker will perform these tasks:

• Responsible for developing and executing short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity, reliability, scalability, and security needs are met now and in the future.
• Leads a team of Information Technology professionals; Leads the creation and delivery of solutions as a Subject Matter Expert; Provides expert guidance to the team on new solutions and designs.
• Conducts research and recommends service, product, protocol, and standard changes to support development efforts and network procurements.
• Reviews proposed solutions to ensure the delivery of a quality product or service to the customers.
• Evaluate network technologies for potential acquisition and direct the evaluation of various hardware and software resources to identify strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency.
• Manages third-party vendors and leads, directs, and utilizes knowledge of best practices in networking, data, and telecommunications.
• Monitors and defines the requirements of the overall security of the enterprise network. Oversees the monitoring and implementing hardware and software solutions to help mitigate various network attacks.
• Mitigates escalations of client incidents and issues. Assess and troubleshoot, consult with vendors, and coordinate with other teams for problem resolution.
• Manages and establishes priorities for complex network system maintenance, design, development, and analysis.
• Perform current state and future state network service mapping, conduct gap analysis, estimate, and plan delivery milestones, communicate plans and progress, and lead cross-department development meetings.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
