Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Advanced Nurse Practice (APN) position is to be a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office, utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of acute and chronic illness and disease. APN practice promotes wellness through conducting research, providing education, and impacting public policy and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN:

- Exemplify the patient/family centered principles in interaction with staff, patients, and hospital personnel.

- Employ Infection Control practices at all times.

- Convene frequently with collaborating physician to discuss expectations, patient management and other service-related functions and needs.

- Display professionalism through affording the appropriate time needed to complete patient care management requirements (diagnostics review, re-evaluation of treatment effectiveness, medical order changes) before leaving the unit/service area at the end of a shift.

- Required is flexibility in incorporating skills throughout the specialty including but not limited to: Prenatal/Post-Partum Obstetrics, Gynecology, Infertility, GYN Oncology, Reproductive Choice, Pediatrics, and other related programs.

Qualifications

A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required. Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master's degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential. A minimum of two (2) years' experience of clinical nursing experience and current BLS certification are required; knowledge and experience in obstetrics and gynecology strongly preferred. Participation in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations preferred.
