Our Specialty Actuarial team is seeking an Actuarial Director to join our growing team in Worcester, MA; Windsor, CT; or remote work arrangement.

Position summary:

The Actuarial Director role will lead all aspects of the Specialty Property and Casualty actuarial practice, including pricing segmentation, portfolio management, planning, and product development. This profitable $560 million business contains a diverse array of products and coverages ranging from programs business to highly complex property to excess and surplus lines. This position reports to the AVP & Actuary and leads a team of three.

The Actuarial Director is a key member of the Specialty P&C leadership team, working closely with both the Presidents and the Chief Underwriting Officers of the business. The manager provides overall management and technical oversight to their staff and is expected to take a more hands on approach where required. This role requires partnership across the Specialty actuarial team as well as the broader organization, including Corporate Underwriting, Enterprise Product, and Finance.

This is a Full-time, Exempt role.


POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Owns and is accountable for regular segmented profitability reviews
  • Leads the actuarial planning process as well as IBNR forecasting
  • Plays a critical role in setting the strategic direction for investments in technology and enhancements to data
  • Monitors profitability and communicates trends to executive leadership
  • Responsible for continuous review and improvement of operations and managing unanticipated situations
  • Partners with business leaders to provide insights and shape direction of the business
  • Ability to influence and negotiate the appropriate actions to support the strategic goals of the organization
  • Capable of testifying at a rate hearing if necessary
  • Responsible for professional development as well as performance and compensation management for team

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant technical field
  • Seven+ years of technical experience in multiple LOB and/or actuarial disciplines such as pricing, reserving or advanced analytics.
  • ACAS required, FCAS preferred
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Advanced capabilities in data analysis and manipulation
  • Intermediate programming skills, including the ability to develop and automate processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all techniques used to model various assumptions
  • Able to apply and interpret company policies and procedures
  • Able to direct activities of others, motivate and develop staff
