ACCOUNTING MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

Pay Range: $118,000 - $135,000 Annually

Responsible for all aspects of accounting. Manages Account Payable and resident receivable for Union City and Acacia Creek. In partnership with the Division Controller, accurately and timely maintains the general ledger and other required reconciliations and schedules for Masonic Homes Union City including audit schedules as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable, resident banking and resident pension and MOS stipend distributions.

o Maintain and monitor all internal related policies and procedures.

o Act as backup for the Union City Accounts Payable, Residents Banking and pension distribution.

o Review accounts payable (bills/invoices)

o Ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and other financial transactions.

o Supervise and mentor accounts payable, resident banking and Senior staff accountant, providing guidance and training as needed.

o Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline the accounts payable, resident banking and pension distribution processes and improve efficiency.

o Coordinate with other departments, such as purchasing, to resolve payment-related issues and ensure compliance with company policies.

Prepare month-end and year-end closing activities related to accounts payable, including accruals and reconciliations. Analyze aging reports. Reconcile GL vs SL.

Manage/Oversee the Concur System

Provides support for MOS assets inquiry, beneficiary changes among others.

Manages and control petty cash funds for Union City

In partnership with the UC Revenue Manager -

o review resident billing for ancillary charges and payment applications.

o Prepare month-end and year-end closing activities.

Ensure accurate resident billing and trust fund statements before distribution to residents. Resolve residents' inquiries on a timely basis.

Ensure all ACH payments and receipts/collections are recorded timely and accurately.

In conjunction with the Division Controller, maintain the general ledger of the Masonic Homes at Union City, including preparing journal entries (accrual, prepayment amortization and intercompany) to ensure that all transactions are recorded in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of all UC account reconciliations, e.g., bank reconciliation, prepayments, and accruals.

Responsible for Acacia Creek balance sheet reconciliations.

Manages the entire Acacia Creek accounting operations, including:

processing monthly billing for Acacia Creek

resolving residents' inquiry

Reconcile GL vs SL

training and coaching Staff Accountant AC.

Facilitates General Store operations by preparing opening cash and auditing closing receipts.

Report/coordinate to the Division Controller all accounting matters and issues, including but not limited to internal audits, journal entries, and General Ledger reconciliations.

Enter month end journal entries and prepare various financial analyses.

Acts as a backup for the following

Matrix Care system administrator in the absence of Division Controller

Resident amortization and other month end closing - depreciation and closing of books.

Medicare, MediCal and Secondary billing.

Perform special projects as requested or required.

Perform all duties as assigned in a timely, accurate and professional manner. Respond to all clients and users of financial information with the highest level of service.

Requirements

Minimum ten years of accounting experience including all major functions.

Computer skills including spreadsheet preparation, database management, and word processing (Microsoft Office - Excel, Access, and Word) , accounting software programs (Platinum for Windows), ADP/Report Smith a plus.

Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.

Must be extremely well-organized and detail-oriented.

Senior Living industry experience and Medicare billing desirable.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities listed, typically:

BA/BS degree in accounting or finance with two years of progressive supervising experience.

Ensures that residents' rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times. Maintains confidentiality of appropriate resident care information to assure their rights are protected. Reports all incidents/accidents, unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately. Follows established safety rules and regulations. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
