PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Accounting Assistant performs routine and repetitive clerical accounting and bookkeeping duties following established procedures to accomplish those duties. In addition, this positive will assist the Plant Controller in other tasks as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree in a Business related major (preferably Accounting)
  • General understanding of general ledger structure & Generally Accepted Accounting Principle
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Bachelors degree in a Business related major or equivalent (5-10 years) work experience in an accounting position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The employee should hold the following abilities:
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must be detail oriented and can multi-task
  • Must have strong internal and external customer service skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of accounting guidelines for shipping & receiving cutoffs and Accounts Payable 3-way match
  • Data Entry/10-key calculator skills
  • SAP Accounting system (or comparable accounting system)
  • Demonstrated organizational skills (filing, record retention, 3-way match)
  • Analytical skills (problem solving, account reconciliation, etc.)
  • Strong math skills
ASSIGNED SCHEDULE

The Accounting Assistant works an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday with a core work schedule and flexibility to rotate hours to come in earlier or later. This position will also be required to work occasional overtime to complete job objectives as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs all functions of the job with specific attention to safe behaviors, environmental stewardship, and housekeeping duties, and reports all non-conformities to management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Support safety programs with positive involvement, such as: completion of annual JSA/SOP peer reviews, STOPP card use, safety improvement idea submittals, acting as a brother's keeper and behaving in a manner consistent with Owens Corning Danville's practice of SafeStart and SafeTrack methodologies.
  2. Responsible for following Owens Corning's Substance Abuse & Detection policy to assure a safe and efficient work environment.
  3. As part of ongoing employment, you'll participate in the quarterly evaluation process, which the expectancy is that you'll receive feedback and meet expectations regarding performance as outlined in the evaluation.
  4. Notify Controller at month-end of any unaccrued invoices.
  5. Completion of monthly MWMB reconciliation to identify in-transit inventory.
  6. Periodic vendor account statement reconciliations - as needed.
  7. Verify shipping documents have been electronically attributed and entered accurately in the Accounting System on a weekly basis.
  8. Timely processing of supplier invoices to ensure timely submission to GenPact for processing.
  9. Work with GenPact and OC Shared Services to resolve all payment discrepancies and/or late payment concerns.
  10. Promptly present supplier invoice discrepancies (price, quantity or terms) to the attention of the Logistics Leader and/or Plant Controller for approval.
  11. Maintain Certification of insurance for all contractors entering the premises.
  12. Effectively communicates issues or errors within the accounting processes for optimization.
  13. Meets commitments and deadline without prodding or reminders.
  14. Gives adequate notice for all absences or schedule adjustments to enable coverage for workload.
  15. Organize Accounts Payable invoices verifying a valid 3-way match (PO-Receipt-Invoice) and prepare them for entry in the accounting system.
  16. Review invoices for appropriate Sales & Use tax handling.
  17. Complete general ledger reconciliations and journal entries to assist Controller.
  18. Prepare project reconciliations for capital projects.
  19. Distribution of raw material price list prior to 1st day of the month.
  20. Prompt scanning/attributing of AP invoices and backup (audit of unattributed documents).
  21. Accurate data entry of all AP invoices and credits in the AccountMate system.
  22. Facilitate new vendor set up and changes to existing vendors with appropriate OC personnel.
  23. Actively seek learning opportunities as job requirements change (SAP).
  24. Verify accuracy and submit weekly IKO invoices and summary reports to GenPact.
  25. Process weekly OC production invoice and submit to GenPact.
  26. Maintain current W-9 documentation on all vendors.
  27. Ensure all visitors sign in and are escorted into the building.
