Description
A sander operator is a skilled worker who operates machines that smooth, polish, or shape wood surfaces for cabinetry and furniture production. A sander operator may work with different types of sanding machines, such as belt sanders, drum sanders,disc sanders, or orbital sanders. A sander operator is responsible for setting up the machine, adjusting the speed and pressure, selecting the appropriate abrasive material, and feeding the wood pieces into the machine.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reading and following blueprints, specifications, or instructions to determine the type, size, and shape of the material to be sanded.Selecting and installing the appropriate sanding equipment, such as belts, discs, pads, or brushes, according to the material and the desired finish.Adjusting the speed, pressure, or angle of the sanding machine to achieve the best results.Feeding the material into the sanding machine manually or using a conveyor belt or a hoist.Monitoring the sanding process and inspecting the quality of the finished product.Cleaning and maintaining the sanding equipment and the work area.Reporting any problems or defects to the supervisor or manager.
RequirementsOperate and maintain sanding machines such as wide belt sanders, edge sanders and orbital sandersAbility to operate a forklift.Adjust sanding speed, pressure and direction according to the type and condition of woodInspect and measure wood products for quality and conformity to specificationsRemove dust, scratches, defects and other imperfections from wood surfacesApply stains, sealers, fillers and other finishing materials as neededFollow safety rules and regulations and wear protective equipmentCommunicate effectively with supervisors and co-workersDemonstrate basic math and reading skillsHave at least one year of experience in wood manufacturing or a related fieldBENEFITS:
